CHAROITE SIBERIANS

Where The Wild Things Are

Hello and welcome to our home on the web.  My name is Mel Hannam, I am blessed to live with my family of Siberian Huskies at the edge of the pretty North Lincolnshire Wolds. My dogs work in harness throughout the colder months, racing in some of the country's most beautiful places at a time of year when all the crowds have a warm dry elsewhere to be. It's the height of summer now and we're enjoying a bit of much-needed sunshine after sloshing through the mud in one of the warmest and wettest winters on record.

The following pages should give you a small insight into the amazing dogs who can quite easily take over your life, as well as the slightly eccentric world of dryland husky racing - a concept we Brits have taken and made uniquely our own.

If you want to ask anything, feel free to give me a shout. If you're thinking about getting a husky, then please, please do your research first. Read everything you can, go to shows and rallies, talk to other owners, understand what you're letting yourself in for! A lot of Siberians end up unwanted simply because they don't behave like Labradors or soft toys. Amazing as they are, Siberians can also be little monsters. If you already have a pet husky, PLEASE don't let him off the lead in an area that isn't securely fenced. You may have been lucky so far but sled-dogs have both an overwhelming desire to run and a passion for hunting that can render them totally deaf to your all shouts and pleas...PS If you're looking for a husky you might want to consider taking on a rescue - lots of Siberians of all ages end up looking for a new home through no fault of their own.
